All Ireland champs becomes family affair

5th October 2008

A father and two sons make up three of eight finalists racing in the Eurocar parks All Ireland Sailing Championship 2008 this morning at Howth Yacht Club.

Winds have moderated from yesterday's near gale conditions that forced the cancellation of the Junior and Girls competition. Racing is expected to start on schedule at 11am.

Yesterday Cork’s Anthony O’Leary showed his small boat prowess with two race wins to secure his place in the finals and he joins sons nicholas and Peter.

In Flight Two Anthony O’Leary and Nigel Biggs both automatically secured a place in Sunday’s final of the ISA All Ireland Sailing Championship 2008 when they placed 1st and 2nd respectively.

In Flight Three Peter O’Leary and Simon Brien also secured their places in Sunday’s final when they placed 1st and 2nd respectively.

On Friday, in flight One Tim Goodbody and Stefan Hyde secured their places in Sunday’s final following a first and second.

This fills six of the eight places in tomorrow’s final. The remaining two places are filled by the two best 3rd place finishers across all three groups.

Third in Flight Two, Nicholas O’Leary qualifies for the finals following his 2nd, 5th and 2nd race results.
