This being the case we can expect increased participation from Ireland over the coimng years starting in Rio de Janeiro.
300 sailors from 60 nations accompanied by 50 national coaches will compete in Dun Laoghaire for 7 days of competitive racing in Dublin Bay. The bid to host the event was made to ISAF (the world governing body for the sport of sailing) by the Royal St George Yacht Club on behalf of the Irish Sailing Association. Because of the scale, this major sailing championship will be hosted by the Royal St George and National yacht clubs which are located adjacent to each other in Dun Laoghaire.
The Iate Clube de Armacao de Buzios in the Brazilian city of Armacao de Buzios, located just 180km northeast of Rio de Janeiro, will host an anticipated 200+ of the world's best young sailing talent for the 39th edition of the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship. This is a landmark year for the Youth Worlds as it marks the first time the Championship has ever been held in South America.
