Crosshaven lifeboat searches in car plunge drama

9th March 2009

Crosshaven Lifeboat was paged at 18.41 last evening (Sunday 8 March) to reports of a vehicle in the water having slipped off the cross river ferry at Glenbrook. The Lifeboat, helmed by David Venner with crew Kevin Higgins and Ian Venner was launched at 18.50 and made best speed to the incident. On arrival it was confirmed that one person had made it ashore, and that one other person was missing. A search was initiated immediately by the Lifeboat, who were then joined on scene by the Ballycotton Lifeboat and the Coastguard Helicopter from Waterford. At 21.45, a new team of Con Crowley, Mark Bushe and Vincent Fleming replaced the tired and cold crew until the search was called off for the night. The lifeboat will resume the search in the morning.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
