Soozal's eight bullets at Miami Grand Prix

9th March 2009

Dan Woolery’s King 40 Soozal designed by Wicklow's Mark Mills won the Acura Miami Grand Prix to sweep a trio of major US events so far in 2009, with her wins at Acura Key West Race Week and the Pineapple Cup - Montego Bay Race.  The Soozal team with Robbie Haines calling the shots found their form to win all of the seven races over the last three days, with eight bullets in their final tally.   Owner and helmsman Woolery put their success down to “getting good starts and finding clear lanes... we have a few degrees worth of pointing on the rest of the fleet, if we want to go higher we can.”

Soozal’s smaller sister the Summit 35 is proceeding rapidly with the 5-axis milled hull and deck plugs being inspected last week before female tooling is completed.  Designer Mark Mills who visited the milling facility in Florida last week with the Summit team was happy with progress “The momentum behind the Summit 35 is impressive - Summit Yachts have been focused not just on the build side, but in signing up some top-notch dealers to promote the design.”

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
