Dealer claims it's cheaper to buy at home

9th March 2009

A leading Irish boat dealer is so confident about his competitive pricing compared to our nearest neighbour that he has issued a press release challening the notion that boats are cheaper in the UK. Bernard Gallagher of BJ Marine has taken the example of several models of sail and power craft and pulbished a price comparison chart of sterling and Euro prices. Gallagher told Afloat: "Yes despite the constant coverage in the media that everything is less expensive in the UK we can prove that the products we sell are actually cheaper to buy here at home in Ireland". The examples are published below the fold.

"We sell sailing boats and power boats from 17 feet upwards, with prices starting from €20,000. Our ranges of products are produced in France, Italy and the USA and are exactly the same as those available in the UK, he says.

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
