Louth Engineers showcase Specialist Marine Works Talent

23rd April 2009

Louth based civil engineers Padhraic Moneley Ltd (PML) Civil Engineers and Contractors in conjunction with Roger Cagney Consulting Engineers have secured an extensive development contract issued by the award winning Howth Yacht Club (HYC), voted ‘Sailing Club of the Year’, 2009.

After careful consideration and planning a majority of the yacht clubs development committee and 2000 members voted in favour of the development which involves extending the present forecourt to double the boat parking capacity and provide a new slip and crane at a cost of €1.9M. The new development was a strategic decision to allow HYC to generate increased revenue for the Yacht Club estimated at €75,000 per annum. The success of this project adds to the already extensive portfolio of Marina and Harbour works carried out by PML over the past 35 years.

After rigorous engineering planning, scheduling and interviewing, PML was chosen as the successful contractor due to their extensive experience they have within the marine works sector. It was decided that PML possessed the necessary skills and experience to confidently carryout the works and do so within budget and by delivering value for money to HYC. The project involves an extension to the existing forecourt in an easterly and northerly direction with a concrete slab suspended on piles over the water and existing slipway, which will be replaced with a purpose-built slip to facilitate the launching and recovery of a larger number of dinghies. The extra space will accommodate more dinghies, dry-sailed keelboats and keelboat winter storage. It will also allow the club host major sailing championships in the future, which in turn are revenue-earning events.
