350 entries signed up for Dun Laoghaire

16th May 2009

350 entries are signed up for July's Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta . As a major boost for organisers a third of the entries are visitors. Visiting clubs include Northern Ireland's Royal North of Ireland YC and Royal Ulster YC who will race for a special trophy to celebrate 125 years of Belfast boats travelling south to race on the bay. Royal Ulster will be sending a fleet of White sail boats.

Welsh clubs participating are Pwllheli SC and South Caernarvonshire YC, Holy Loch SC, Clyde CC Helensburgh SC from Scotland. English entries are in from Royal Ocean Racing Club, Royal Western SC, Whitby and Liverpool YC , the latter sending a nine boat fleet to the event. Royal Cork has a show of strength with some of its Commodores cup stars returning: Antony O’Leary Antix Dubh and Blondie skippered by Eamonn Rohan among the entries from Cork – so all classes are shaping up nicely with entries in from 21 of the 25 stated classes.

Irish clubs entered to date hail from Arklow SC, Bray SC, Carlingford Lough YC, Carlingford SC, Royal Cork YC, Skerries SC, Poolbeg Yacht & Boat Club Sutton Dinghy Club, Malahide YC, Howth YC, Clontarf Yacht & Boat Club, Bray SC, Wicklow SC, Skerries SC and the four water front clubs in Dun Laoghaire; National, Royal St. George, Royal Irish and Motor Yacht clubs Team

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open. is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
