An additional safety requirement will require the yachts to report their positions to the coastal radio stations when passing due south of the Mizen Head and off Skellig Michael as well as the Tralee Bay Sailing Club finish control off Fenit Pier.
The time limit will be 12.00 on Sunday 7th June but times shall be taken and recorded on the supplied recorder sheet at the following points: due south of the Fastnet Rock, due west of the Washerwoman Rocks and due north of Inishtooskert Island. One of these sets of times may be used to calculate results in the event of boats not finishing within the time limit.
Some entries for the Nationals have already taken advantage of the current spell of settled weather, particularly the eastern airflow, to enjoy a painless weekend cruise to the Kerry port, while some of the smaller competitors such as Dominic Losty’s Woodie from Cove Sailing Club and Anthony O Leary’s Antix Beag from the Royal Cork Yacht Club are already on their road trailers for the overland trip west.
Racing for the West Coast Championships begins on Wednesday 10 June, with the ICRA Nationals starting June 11 in a three-day seventy-boat event overlapping the WIORA series.
