Kerry IRC fleet bigger than Solent

10th June 2009

RORC's IRC National Championship weekend was held from last Friday to Sunday with eight races scheduled and completed on the Solent. Entries were down by 30% overall on last year with 62 boats racing across five classes compared with 88 last year. The effects of the recession on yacht racing is clearly being felt in the UK but there's no sign of it at home with ICRA boasting a 70-boat fleet for its championships starting tomorrow. Hot footing it back across the Irish Sea for the event is the newly crowned UK IRC champion Dave Dwyer from Crosshaven who is aiming for the double at Fenit. Marinerscove.ie has made it to Kerry in the nick of time, thanks to fair winds.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
