Big Jump in social media usage

Big Jump in social media usage

This year has seen a massive jump in the number of clubs and marine organisations using social media to promote their products and events. You can now communicate with Afloat Magazine via Facebook and Twitter, but we're not alone on 't'internet. Click through to see who's networked up to the gunwhales.

There's a host of clubs already on Facebook. Aphabetically, there's Arklow , Bray , Carrickfergus , Glenans and Greystones , and don't forget those who are ALSO on Twitter (that'd be the Royal St George and Howth). And that's just a sprinkling.

It's not just clubs. HM Yachts from Crosshaven are peddling their wares through an offical Facebook page, Bow Waves are offering courses online, the Irish 49er Class are organising their events through Facebook, and the Round Ireland yacht race has nearly 900 Facebook fans. There's even an ISA Olympic page.

We're finding more and more news these days through non-traditional sources, so if you're a club or commercial entity and you want to ensure that your events are being found by Afloat's online team, make sure and add us online, or drop a mail to [email protected] with your online details.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
