Sports in Ireland have received a relatively modest €8 million funding boost in today’s Budget announcement, as The Irish Times reports.
About half of this figure will go towards supporting sailors, rowers, paddlers and other athletes’ preparations for the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics.
The allocation will also fund implementation of the Sports Action Plan, including the Sport for All programme.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Sport Jack Chambers has proposed a “multi-million euro funding package” — out of his department’s €135 million allocation for the sports, tourism, culture and media sectors — to help sports clubs with rising energy costs.
