Isle of Man Steam Packet Had No Other Option Says Chief Executive
The Isle of Man Steam Packet Chief Executive says the ferry company had no other option but to stop sailings to Birkenhead this winter.
It was announced yesterday the Ben-my-Chree will instead travel (from Douglas) to Heysham on Saturdays and Sundays, with an express coach service onwards to Liverpool for foot passengers.
Manx Radio asked the chief executive Mark Woodward if he could explain why the decision was taken. To listen to his response click here for a link to a podcast.
For further details of the development, Afloat adds the ferry operator released a statement yesterday which was advised by Birkenhead Terminal (Twelve Quays) as for the reason.
Afloat previously reported of engineering works at Twelve Quays where a major £17m port modernisation project is currently taking place. The ferry facility faces opposite of the famous Liverpool waterfront.
