Dublin's Lord Mayor Gerry Breen will assume the traditional title of Admiral of the Port of Dublin when he presides over the Parade of Sail on the Liffey later this month.
The parade on Sunday 29 May is a highlight of the annual Dublin Bay Old Gaffers Association rally, which this year is held in tandem with the Stella Maris Rowing Club regatta.
Rowing clubs along the east coast will be sending crews to Dublin to compete for the special Asgard Trophy, which is made of timber used in the conservation of the original Asgard in the National Museum.
The event - centred at the Poolbeg Yacht and Boat Club near Ringsend - is also expected to attract classic vessels from ports in Wales and Northern Ireland.

The Dublin Bay Old Gaffers Association's (DBOG) next lecture "A Hooker Evening with the Men from Kinvarra " will be held tomorrow evening. The lecture will be presented by captains of the Galway hookers and the venue is the Poolbeg Yacht Boat Club & Marina (PYBC).
The lecture starts at 8 pm but the organisers are encouraging those wishing to attend to assemble at 7.15 pm for a socialable drink in advance.

Poolbeg clubhouse overlooks the marina and faces the entrance to Alexandra Basin, where shipping activities of the commercial port can be viewed in closer detail.

To reach the clubhouse which is located on the South Bank, Pigeon House Road, Ringsend, take the Sean Moore Road that connects the Merrion Strand Road (from the south) and the East-Link Toll Bridge (if travelling from the northside).

The next lecture organised by the Dublin Bay Old Gaffers Association (DBOG) will be "Diving The Wreck of the Bolivar on the Kish Bank" by Cormac Lowth. The lecture will take place in the Poolbeg Yacht Boat Club & Marina (PYBC) at 8pm on Tuesday 8 March.
The lecture will examine the story of the ship, the shipwreck, the re-discovery and diving and fishery. In addition many other shipwrecks dived by the speaker will be included and accompanied with illustrations.

The talks proper will begin at 8 pm but the organisers are encouraging those wishing to attend to assemble at 7.15 pm for a socialable drink in advance of the talk starting. Gaff rigged and traditional boats are welcome to join the Dublin Bay Old Gaffers Association in a celebration of traditional sailing and music and craic on the week-end of May 28th-30th. It is part of Poolbeg Yacht and Boat Club's annual regatta and

festival sponsored by Dublin Port Company.

The weekend will begin with registration and reception on Friday night followed by a race in Dublin Bay on Saturday Starting @11:30 at Poolbeg Lighthouse.

On Saturday evening there will be a Hog Roast, music and craic until late.

Sunday will include the Blessing Of The Boats at Poolbeg  followed by a Parade of sail up through the East link and the Samuel Beckett Bridges and returning back down to Poolbeg Marina.

Prize giving  will take place @17:00 hours in Poolbeg Club house. Sunday evening will conclude with Music and socialising .

Poolbeg Yacht and Boat Club Have Kindly agreed to facilitate all registered and participating boats, free berths on the Marina for the week end.
