#Shark - It could be a while - if ever - before Lydia the great white shark reaches Ireland's shores, as The Irish Times reports that she's turned tail mid-ocean.

Last week some marine experts were predicting that the 4.4-metre, one-tonne giant would reach the North Atlantic's eastern coastal waters anywhere from Cork to North Africa.

But the latest tracking data from the project following Lydia's exploits shows that she's changed course a few hundred miles shy of the continental shelf, instead heading in the general direction of Greenland.

“It’s not that she doesn’t like you, but she may not like your habitat,” marine biologist Dr Gregory Skomal told The Irish Times, which has more on the story HERE.

But that's not to say our waters might not favour some of her fellow killer fish, as previously reported on Afloat.ie.

#MarineWildlife - If the prospect of Lydia the great white shark visiting Ireland's shores gave you goose-pimples, best stay away from the water for a good while yet - as one marine expert says this is just the beginning of a whole wave of seaborne killers headed our way!

As previously reported on Afloat.ie, a great white named Lydia is being tracked by researchers as she swims full speed ahead across the Atlantic, destination as yet unknown - though it could be anywhere from Cork to North Africa.

And as Dingle Oceanworld director Kevin Flannery tells the Sunday Independent today (9 March), she's likely following an established feeding track for the voracious ocean predators, which means there could be a host of other hungry giants following the same path.

But while the average beach-goer will have the horrors of Jaws in mind, the presence of great white sharks in Irish waters may be a godsend to coastal fishermen concerned by alleged predation of fish stocks by seals, which just happen to be the shark's favourite dinner.

#Shark - Scientists tracking a great white shark across the Atlantic have plotted her position at just days away from the south coast of Ireland.

As the Mirror reports, the massive 'killer' fish - measuring 4.4 metres in length weighing in at almost one tonne - has covered at least 380 miles since last Tuesday alone.

And it's thought that Lydia - as marine giant been named by the research team tracking her via a transmitter on her dorsal fin - could soon reach the coast anywhere between Cornwall, mainland Europe or North Africa.

#Jaws - The Mail Online has published a series of incredible photographs showing a young seal's lucky escape from the jaws of a great white shark.

David Jenkins from Dublin snapped the seal's perilous encounter with the dangerous marine beast from a tour boat off the coast of Cape Town in South Africa - a favourite haunt for the killer fish made infamous by the movie Jaws.

Some of the astounding shots show the seal balancing on the shark's nose as it tries to snap itself a meal.

Others clearly show the great white's startling rows of razor sharp teeth as it pursues its prey.

But despite the shark's amazing speed and agility for its size, the smaller and lithe seal used its own quickness and manoeuvrability to narrowly avoid meeting its maker.
