Long day off Kinsale

19th April 2010
Long day off Kinsale

Light north easterlies started the day, and a feeble southerly finished proceedings at the Kinsale Spring Series on Sunday, the third scheduled day of racing, sponsored by North Sails. A fleet of over 50 yachts took part in blistering sunshine and shifting breezes.

Principal Race Officers of both courses, Alan Crosbie and Jeanot Petch, had to postpone racing for 45 minutes. Jeanot Petch brought classes 3, 4 and White Sail into the harbour mouth to get a short course under way. This replaced the scheduled coastal course.

The final start on Sunday will mark the final outing for Petch's ketch, Sea Drifter, which has provided sterling service to Kinsale yacht Club over many years but has been sold.

Light winds and strong tides made for frustrating racing, but the Race Officers gave excellent value for money and kept racing going in the difficult light airs, shortening courses for Classes 0, 1 and 2.

Results due soon on the Kinsale Yacht Club website.
