14th September 2009
All Aboard for Surf and Sea Festival

Nip down to Tramore next the weekend (19/20 of September) and join in the fun at the Tramore Oceanic Surf and Sea Festival and take part in the Ladies Surf Weekend. Supported by the Women in Sport initiative and the Irish Surfing Association there are Free places available for those looking to take up the sport for the first time.

This not to be missed weekend is a weekend created by ladies, for ladies, so if you’re aged 18 and up it is time to pull on a wetsuit, grab a board and hit the waves! Whether you're a beginner surfer new to the sport, who can stand on a board but is stuck in the white-water or an advanced surfer who is looking to sharpen their surfing, this weekend aims to take your surfing up a notch in a fun, laid back environment.

According to Linda Tuohy Chairperson of the festival, “It doesn’t matter whether you are a surf girl novice or an advanced wave rider, as our instructors will be on hand with expert instruction. It is a fantastic opportunity to discover surfing and its unique lifestyle, because surfing is not just a sport. Participants will learn about the environment through workshops, as well as top tips on equipment, how to behave in the water and how to choose a wave.”

The ladies surf weekend is not just all surfing, Indian Head Massage sessions and Pilates instruction add the pamper factor, a Saturday evening Barbeque and a Champagne Cocktail reception with live music entertainment will revive any weary surfer.

Organising an all girls surf weekend is something that has come about due to demand says Linda  “An all girl event provides a comfortable, fun and supportive environment in which girls can take to the water together to either learn or improve their surfing skills”.

A Family Fun Day of surfing and entertainment will take place on September 20 with a fun filled programme of activities open to all on Tramore beach at the Tramore Oceanic Surf and Sea Festival. From 11am Eco-walks, Kite Surfing, Exhibitions and Kite Building, Martial Arts, Beach Volley Ball, Rock Climbing Demo, Orienteering, Sea Weed Workshops, Fishing Demonstrations, Thunder Cats Exhibition, Wind Surfing Exhibitions, Historian sessions, and much more are all on offer.

A Monster Skate Jam will take place from 11am on Sunday September 20 sponsored by Monster Energy Ireland and all four Surf Schools in Tramore are offering half price surf equipment hire between 11am and 4pm

Classic Motor enthusiasts will be enthralled with a Classic Volkswagen Show taking place on Sunday afternoon at the festival.
