Body Recovered after Man Overboard at Rosslare

Rescuers searching for a woman who had fallen overboard from a ferry travelling from Rosslare to Fishguard say they have recovered a body in the Irish Sea. A major sea and air search was launched after the woman, in her forties, was reported overboard from Stena's Europe passenger ferry at about 2145 GMT.

The vessel remained at the scene, about three miles from the Irish coast and the body was recovered after two hours. Irish coastguard said the Garda have now taken over the investigation.

Afloat sources add:

The Irish Ferries Vessel Inishmore was only 20mins from the Stena Europe’s mayday position and was tasked to take part in the search. The lifeboat from Kilmore Quay recovered a body just south of our position at 0045 and search vessels were stood down at 0050.
