Hoax call at New Quay, Wales

Milford Haven Coastguard launched a major search for two anglers in the early hours of Saturday morning but it was discovered to be a hoax.

As the search continued it became clear that the boat was not in the location described by the first informant and at 6am, two men believed to have made the elaborate hoax calls were located ashore.  One male has been taken into custody by Dfyd Powys Police and is helping Police with their enquiries.

Milford Haven Watch Manager Nigel Yelland said,

“This hoax call has wasted time and resources for the emergency services as well as diverting resources away from any other potentially serious incident where people could genuinely need help in a life or death situation.  Hoax calls can cause lives to be lost.”
