#RNLI - Wicklow RNLI's all-weather lifeboat launched at 6.40pm yesterday evening (Thursday 23 July) to assist a yacht with mechanical problems.
The 34ft English-registered yacht was on its way to Greystones at the time when the engine began overheating, requiring it to be switched off to prevent damage.
With light winds, the vessel was unable to make any headway under sail and was drifting south with the tide. Therefore, the owner contacted the Irish Coast Guard by marine VHF radio for assistance.
The lifeboat located the yacht nine miles northeast of Wicklow Harbour. One of the crew, Terry Sillery, went on board the vessel to assist with establishing a towline.
Weather conditions in the area were good at the time, the sea state was slight and visibility was good.
The yacht was towed into Greystones Harbour, arriving alongside at 8.30pm. With the male and female crew on board the yacht safely ashore and requiring no medical assistance, the lifeboat returned to station at Wicklow.
The crew on the callout were coxswain Ciaran Doyle, mechanic Brendan Copeland, Terry Sillery, Carol Flahive, Dean Mulvihill, Vinny Mulvihill, John Vize and Matt Doyle.
