#rorcrfr - 'Serious burns' from a hot liquid took one sailor out of the Rolex Fastnet Race in the early stages.
As Yachting World reports, Plymouth RNLI's all-weather lifeboat was launched on Monday afternoon (17 August) to the yacht Southern Child around 13 miles offshore.
After negotiating the busy fleet of yachts to reach the 12-metre yacht with 10 crew on board, the lifeboat volunteers assessed the casualty, a man in his mid-40s, before evacuating him for hospital treatment.
As reported earlier today on Afloat.ie, Jim Clark's Maxi 100 Comanche claimed monohull line honours in a Fastnet Race dogged by lack of winds that set the fleet drifting for much of the course.
