Dingle Departure a Cliff-hanger

17th August 2009
Dingle Departure a Cliff-hanger
The 52-boat Figaro fleet left Dingle on Sunday bound for Dieppe via the Fastnet, with a start under the cliffs in a strong south-westerly giving the fleet an early upwind workout. The fleet is now approaching Lands End, still surfing downwind at between seven and nine knots. The fleet was recalled on their first start but got away clean the second time to bring their Kerry weekend to a close.

The fast straight-line pace has kept things incredibly tight at the top, with the first eight boats all within one mile of each other.

The Dingle - Dieppe leg is the final stage of the Figaro, which has seen a boom year, with many big names from the world of ocean racing returning to 'La Solitaire' from the likes of the IMOCA Open 60 and offshore trimaran circuits.
