Wicklow duo for Round Ireland
Brian Flahive and Bryan Byrne are the latest sailing pairing to announce their intention to compete in the 2010 Round Ireland, entering the double-handed class in a borrowed GibSea 37. The pair are racing to raise funds for the National Children's Hospital .

Local sailors Flahive and Byrne, a student at DIT, have been lent the boat by Graham Noonan of Noonan Boats in Newcastle, Co Wicklow, and are in the process of stripping the antifouling and servicing various parts of the boat in preparation for the event.

The pair are blogging their campaign, and you can catch the latest news from the campaign on teamoystercatcher.blogspot.com

The double-handed class attracted considerable interest last year and was boosted this year with the announcement that blind adventurer Mark Pollock and former solo Round Ireland record holder Mick Liddy will compete in a Class 40.

Up-to-date news on the race can be found on its Facebook page .

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
