Due to strong winds, tonight's (Friday) ISORA Night Race from Dun Laoghaire has been cancelled for a second time this summer on safety grounds.
During race time, northwest winds are expected to gust up to 30 mph this evening.
On Thursday evening, organisers indicated the race would sail to the East Kish or Moulditch buoy and back but added the proviso that it would be cancelled if the strong north-easterly winds that battered Dun Laoghaire last night prevailed.
At 6 a.m., ISORA chief Peter Ryan posted the cancellation notice for the three-hour race 'due to the forecast and Small Craft Warning in place'.
'Apologies for any inconvenience, but safety must come first', he said.
In a double header weekend for Irish Sea offshore fans (that will decide 2024's overall honours), Ryan added Saturday's coastal race from the same venue would go ahead with a 10.00 am start for the five-hour race.
The forecast for Irish coastal waters from Belfast Lough to Wicklow Head to Roches Point and the Irish Sea is for northerly force 6 or 7 and gusty. Decreasing northwest force 5 or 6 imminent. Further decreasing west to northwest force 3 or 4 later.
