There were thrills and spills off the Clare coast yesterday as the breeze filled in to test competitors at the WIORA West Coast Championships.
Nonetheless, the top boats shone through and a full complement of sailing was held.
IRC1 Glenn Cahill's Galway-based J109 Joi de Vie, three wins from four races, but clubmate Martin Breen and crew are still in touch, posting only top three results and just 1.5 points off the pace.
IRC2 Brian Raftery's Corby 26 won both races yesterday to take the lead, and things are tight atop Class 3, with the J24 of Team Chaos leading the class for the home club wiht three wins from four. One slip in the first race yesterday means that the Foynes-based Golden Shamrock are still in touch, but if the seventh proves to be a momentary slip, Chaos will reign.
Meanwhile, in the white sails, a long journey around for Stephen Mullaney's Howth crew has proved worthwhile, with a clean sheet of wins for Walter Mitty.
Gareth Craig of fotosail.com has captured some of the action from the event in his WIORA gallery. (See if you can spot the aptly-named Disaray in some spinnaker trouble)
