Afloat.ie: Annalise Wins Down Under

19th December 2009

Annalise Murphy was second in this morning's medal race in Sail Melbourne leaving the National YC Laser sailor fourth overall in the event giving he overall victory in the 'Down Under Series,' the combination of Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne race weeks.

She finished Melbourne on equal points with New Zealander Sara Winter who narrowly won the race from Annalise to finish third overall. After the unpredictable weather of the last few days the fleet got a decent south-easterly wind between 12 and 15 knots for the majority of the day. Dutch sailor Marit Bouwmeester’s fourth in the medal race gave her victory over Paige Railey who finished ninth in the medal race which lost her the overall win.

Annalise leaves Melbourne tonight, getting home via Dubai and London tomorrow evening. Next event  on her road to London 2012 is Miami Olympic week in late January.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
