#nat18 – This week's National 18 Cock O' the North competition at Crosshaven from 26th or the 31st July is a special time for the dinghy Class as it brings together some very old friends and lots of new friendships whilst always remaining very competitive on the water.

The event represents the culmination of four years or planning, designing, fundraising and many, many hours of "talking". This year 35 National 18s racing are across the three eras of the 76 year history, (Classics, Ultimates and Ultras) It is the first Championhips for the newly designed hull by Phil Morrison.

Bob Bateman phtoographed the fleet in today's action packed series for the Class Championships / Cock O' the North Trophy.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
