Irish Girls Near Top Ten of Laser Radial Youth World Championship in Canada

#laser – After two days of Laser racing in Kingston Ontario, Irish youth sailors Aisling Keller (LDYC) and Aoife Hopkins (HYC) are currently tied on points in 10th & 11th position respectively.

In the boys fleet, Ewan McMahon (HYC) is lying in 24th places following a string of solid results. Conditions in Kingston so far have been light and shifty with the race committee having to wait for wind to fill in each day.

Racing started on Saturday with the Irish Team arriving late Wednesday night to save funds, according to a team insider.

Thursday was spent getting over jet lag, settling into accommodation and food shopping which left Friday for boat charter checkout, measurement, registration and a short training session was planned. Unfortunately the training session was cancelled due to the threat of thunderstorms. This resulted in the sailors sailing in the venue for the first time during the first race.
