#Rowing: Ireland’s Aoife Casey and Margaret Cremen took third in their heat and qualified for the quarter-finals of the World Junior Championships in Trakai in Lithuania today. The Skibbereen/Lee double had tucked into third behind Britain, who won, and Germany by halfway. Ukraine and Belarus fought to take the fourth qualification spot, with Ukraine coming out on top.

#Rowing: Ireland took its fifth gold medal of the Coupe de la Jeunesse in Hazewinkel in Belgium today. Gill McGirr and Eliza O’Reilly were emphatic winners of the junior women’s pair. They led in silver-medal winners Italy by over six seconds. Britain took the bronze.

 The two Fermoy women had also won gold on Saturday.

 Earlier, the junior men’s quadruple had taken their second gold. Georgia O’Brien and the men’s four finished fourth and fifth respectively in their A Finals.

#Rowing: The Ireland junior men’s four finished fifth at the Coupe de la Jeunesse in Hazewinkel in Belgium. Britain showed impressive speed and won the A Final well, with Belgium taking silver and Portugal a surprise bronze. The Czech Republic and the Ireland crew of Aaron Johnston, Ross Corrigan, Barry Connolly and Nathan Timoney, were just behind this group.

#Rowing: Ireland’s four boats will again appear in A Finals today at the Coupe de la Jeunesse in Hazewinkel, Belgium. Two Ireland crews won their heats this morning and one finished second. The women’s pair of Gill McGirr and Eliza O’Reilly have a straight final.

 Georgia O’Brien claimed victory in her heat by just over a second from Austria’s Alexandra Breschan, with Hungary taking the third qualification place, much further back.

 The Ireland Quadruple also won. Poland and the Czech Republic took the second and third qualification spots behind the Ireland crew of Barry O’Flynn, Matt Dundon, Jack Keating and James Quinlan. In a tight finish, France took fourth and missed out by less than a second.

 The Ireland four of Aaron Johnston, Ross Corrigan, Barry Connolly and Nathan Timoney finished second in their heat, just ahead of Belgium. Britain took first.

#Rowing: Gill McGirr and Eliza O’Reilly won gold at the Coupe de la Jeunesse in Hazewinkel in Belgium today. The Fermoy girls brought Ireland’s gold medal tally to a remarkable three. They were big winners, beating Britain’s Lucy Pullinger and Frances Curtis by eight and a half seconds. Italy took the bronze.

#Rowing: Georgia O’Brien of Kenmare took Ireland’s second gold of the day at the Coupe de la Jeunesse regatta in Hazewinkel in Belgium this afternoon. The single sculler had won her heat in the morning session and she did it again in the A Final in a slightly faster time, just pipping France’s Virginie Liot. Britain’s Jane Hardie took the bronze.

Britain, Switzerland and the Czech Republic took the gold, silver and bronze, with hosts Belgium fourth and Italy sixth.

#Rowing: All the Ireland crews at the Coupe de la Jeunesse in Hazewinkel in Belgium will compete in A Finals after a very good set of results in this morning’s heats. 

The Ireland men’s quadruple and single sculler Georgia O’Brien won their heats. Italy and Britain took second and third behind the quad of Barry O’Flynn, Matt Dundon, Jack Keating and James Quinlan. Britain and France followed O’Brien in, securing their places in the final.

 In the men’s four, the Ireland crew of Aaron Johnston, Ross Corrigan, Barry Connolly and Nathan Timoney took third to secure qualification. They had a good second 1,000 metres. In the final 500 they went from fifth to third and beat France and Poland in the battle for an A Final spot.

 The Ireland women’s pair of Eliza O’Reilly and Gill McGirr go into a straight A Final later, with six entries.

#Rowing: Ireland’s Fintan and Jake McCarthy took second in the B Final, eighth overall, at the World Rowing Under-23 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. In temperatures already in the twenties, Chile and Japan were fastest over the first half of the race, with Ireland back in fourth. Through the second 1,000 metres, Chile took over the clear lead and Ireland moved up into second. They challenged the Chileans but could not catch them.  

 The race was a five-boat contest, as Britain’s Matt Curtis and Gavin Horsburgh pulled out for medical reasons.
