Champions NUIG Are Rowers of the Month

The NUIG senior eight are the Afloat Rowers of the Month for July. The crew won the top award at the National Championships, the Big Pot, in a thrilling race in which they edged out Queen’s University by .4 of a second. The crew is: David Mannion, Jason Wall, Evin Donnelly, Padraig Bracken, Paul Giblin, Alan Martin, Cormac Folan, James Wall and cox Ruadhan Cooke.

Rower of the Month awards: The judging panel is made up of Liam Gorman, rowing correspondent of The Irish Times, President of Rowing Ireland Anthony Dooley and David O'Brien, Editor of Afloat magazine. Monthly awards for achievements during the year will appear on afloat.ie and the overall national award will be presented to the person who, in the judges' opinion, achieved the most notable results in, or made the most significant contribution to rowing during 2009. Keep a monthly eye on progress and watch our 2009 champions list grow. Thanks for your interest!

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.

If you have ideas for our pages we'd love to hear from you. Please email us at [email protected]
