#Swim360 - Two years ago they became the first people to navigate Asia's longest river from source to sea by kayak when they completed the 16,000-mile Silk Roads to Shanghai.
Now David Burns and Maghnus Collins are undertaking another great challenge closer to home – as they aim to be the first people to swim around the entire coastline of Ireland.
The adventurous duo set out from Dalkey's Coliemore Harbour on Wednesday 3 June, as previously reported on Afloat.ie, swimming in a clockwise direction that since taken them as far as Cape Clear Island in West Cork.
Support is at hand along the way from on- and offshore teams headed by Philip Hatton and Leish McPartland respectively. But the two record-breakers are very much doing all the hard work themselves.
Indeed, Burns and Collins have put in 15 to 22km swimming each day on Costcutter Swim 360, making the most of the longer summer days to spend as many as 12 hours in he water in any 24-hour period.
"It’s going to be tougher than anything we have ever done before,: said Burns ahead of the Swim 360 start. "That’s the attraction I suppose, it’s a challenge that might break us.
"We wanted a opportunity to really test ourselves and it’s a real bonus that we can do that at home."
They're also doing it for a very good cause, hoping to raise both funds and awareness for the great work carried out by their charity partners Gorta-Self Help Africa and the RNLI.
Details on how to donate are available on the duo's Sand2Snow Adventures website. Burns and Collins will also take part in a Q&A to mark the half way point of Swim 360 at the Clayton Hotel in Galway on Sunday 2 August, tickets priced at €20.
