When selling your boat, MGM Boats gives you a comprehensive package and leaves no stone unturned. What you get for your fee gives you real value for money and ensures you get the best return possible. Included in your fee are Valuation, Photography, Marketing, Inquiry management, Viewing handling, Negotiation, pre-survey engineering, Survey management, post-survey engineering, Finance handling, Paperwork handling, and final handover. All aspects are considered, and this has enabled MGM to be the leading Irish brokerage company for the last 25 years.

One of the most important things when selling your boat is showing it in the best possible light. Skilled photography makes your boat look its best and allows prospective buyers to get a clear image of the condition of the boat. MGM’s brokers know the best way to sequence the photos and they know the key parts to photograph. We live in such a visual environment nowadays and we buy based on that initial attraction or that spark that a vivid photo gives us.

MGM market your boat internationally. Everyone is looking for the best boat for their money, and as such, buyers can come from far and wide. MGM advertise your boat on 25 of the top platforms, getting eyes on your listing from all over the world with a focus on the performing markets. This approach has led to a long history of international business for MGM, with them selling a lot of boats to Germany, the Netherlands and France in particular. The higher the number of clients interested in the boat, the higher the sale price at the end of the day.

MGM are present at all major European and International boat shows. With their own dedicated brokerage stand at these shows, MGM meets hundreds of new customers and gets countless enquiries. As an owner, your boat listing will be seen by hundreds of people who might not see it otherwise. At Boot Dusseldorf 2024, the MGM team sold four brokerage boats.

MGM have a dedicated CRM. This has enabled them to build a vast portfolio of clients and the system is updated on an hourly basis by all brokers. Every phone call, walk-in, email and text are recorded and noted on the CRM, meaning MGM know exactly what each of their customers is looking for. When you list your boat for sale, they don’t wait for the phone to ring. Each new listing is privately issued to relevant clients meaning some boats end up being sold before they make it online.

When it comes to showing your boat, all viewings are dealt with by one of MGM’s experienced brokers. Every potential buyer is different, and MGM can ensure their impression of the boat is as positive as possible. Some buyers may be inexperienced and need a guiding hand while others may be hands-on boat owners with a detailed agenda to work through. MGM can work with whatever demands are made and ensure the client is happy when they finish.

To achieve the best possible sale price for your boat, MGM will negotiate on your behalf, though no sale price is final without your authorisation, and throughout the whole process, the broker will be on the phone checking in with you. Once the sale is agreed, MGM handle the finances with their dedicated client account. The seller never has to provide any personal details to a stranger.

MGM has a fully equipped boatyard providing the essential services that play a vital role in the sales process. Their purpose-built travel hoist enables the lift-out of your boat for survey and their highly skilled engineers can carry out repairs or improvements where necessary. On every second-hand boat a surveyor will find at least a few minor issues. By having MGM as your broker these issues can be rectified in house meaning there is no interruption to the sale process, the buyer remains happy, and the deal can be concluded.

MGM offer brokerage storage at a reduced rate. Although the space is limited, MGM have a dedicated sales berth in Dun Laoghaire as well as some yard space for trailer boats. Having the boat on their doorstep means they can facilitate viewings at any time, and it benefits the owner from a cost and logistics perspective.

The comprehensive brokerage package you get with MGM has been proven many times over the years and you do not have to look far in the boating community to find somebody who has sold a boat through them. MGM promise a smooth and straightforward sale with strong results.

Following on from their Sun Odyssey promotion, which began six weeks ago, MGM Boats is offering a Spring Promotion on their selection of Zodiac and Bombard RIBs. The promotion is valid until 30th April 2024.

MGM have offerings from €30k up to €120k, so there is a model to suit everyone, whether it’s for pottering around in a 5m Bombard or spending full days on the water in a 6.8m Zodiac

The promotion applies to MGM’s current stock only, but of course, they can supply any of the other models from the Zodiac and Bombard range on request.

Zodiac & Bombard are the oldest and most established RIB builders on the market, with the first-ever inflatable boat, a ‘Zodiac’, being launched in 1922. The company began supplying RIBs to the French Military in the 1930s and the name has become synonymous with any rigid hulled inflatable boat across the globe.

Mr Alain Bombard founded Bombard Inflatables after crossing the Atlantic unsupported in a 4.5m Zodiac in 1952. Bombard Inflatables is now a subsidiary of Zodiac and together they are the largest producer of RIBs in the world.

Zodiac and Bombard owners benefit hugely from the strength of the brand. Compared to lesser known and low-quality outfits, there is strong re-sale and minimal depreciation. There is also the main dealer warranty support from MGM and the long-lasting quality of the boats themselves. MGM regularly see 20-year-old Zodiacs which are still going strong with no issues and only minor wear & tear.

Some of the models featured in the promotion are as follows: Zodiac Yachtline 490, Bombard Sunrider 500, Bombard Sunrider 550, Zodiac Open 6.5 Gulfstream, and Zodiac Medline 6.8.

The Zodiac Yachtline 490 is a premium tender-style RIB with dedicated seating for 6 and plush leather upholstery. It comes with a high spec and an upmarket feel to it.

The Bombard Sunrider 500 and 550 are a great family run-around with comfortable seating for 6 and multipurpose usability. They are easily trailerable and will do everything you ask of them during a day of boating. The 550 benefits from increased deck space.

The Zodiac Open 6.5 Gulfstream is a capable package with a sports orientated layout and excellent sea-keeping characteristics. There is a lot of open deck space to facilitate activity such as water sports, fishing or swimming. This boat is still very easy to operate yet has the size and fit-out for longer journeys and more adventurous trips.

The Zodiac Medline 6.8 is the cream of the nautical crop. MGM’s best-selling RIB with over 30 units sold, this model does everything, and it does it in style. It has dedicated seating for 10 with space enough to carry 14 passengers. You will find sunbathing space, a proper table, a U-shaped cockpit, a ski mast, a fully kitted dashboard, a transom walkthrough, extended swimming platforms, a stainless steel bimini, wakeboard storage, and much more. The performance is exceptional with top speeds up to 55 knots and a solid hull keeping things comfortable in coastal sea conditions. This model allows owners to enjoy the best of boating whether with adrenaline junky friends or with kids and family.

MGM’s stock boats are available for viewing by appointment at their head office in Dun Laoghaire, and new owners can rest assured that they will be expertly guided throughout the entire sale process. MGM offers tuition and familiarisation as part of the purchase, so whether you are experienced or trying boating for the first time, you will be comfortable and confident when you take your new boat away.

The Spring Promotion is a significant cash discount on the retail price, and MGM is inviting customers to get in touch now to discuss viewing and taking the next step. Call in to the office, call 01-2802020 or email [email protected] today. It’s time to get on the water.

Ireland's MGM Boats, a leading boat broker, is all set to celebrate its 15-year partnership with French yacht builder Lagoon Catamarans. The year 2024 will be extra special for the boat builder as it marks 40 years of production. In honour of these milestones, MGM Boats is promoting a special weekend event called 'Exclusive Days', where visitors can see the wide range of catamarans on display in Bordeaux.

The event is scheduled to take place from 6th to 9th March 2024 and will offer an opportunity to discover a wide range of catamaran models. The Lagoon 40, Lagoon 42, Lagoon 46, Lagoon 51, Lagoon 55, Lagoon 60, Sixty 5, Seventy 7 and Sixty 7 are set to be on display.

MGM Boats has been representing the Lagoon Catamarans brand in Ireland for the past 15 years and has built a reputation for providing high-quality boats to its customers. The partnership has been successful, with Lagoon Catamarans being one of the most popular catamaran brands in Ireland.

As regular Afloat readers know, Afloat has been charting the Lagoon story on Afloat.ie right back to when WM Nixon declared the Lagoon 52 Catamaran was Irish sailing's shining white hope in 2014. In 2018, the same author charted an Irish couple's dream retirement cruise on a Lagoon Catamaran, and in 2021, MGM launched the Lagoon 55 in Ireland.

The 'Exclusive Days' promotion is expected to attract a lot of visitors, who will have the opportunity to see the latest models and designs from Lagoon Catamarans. The event promises to be a great opportunity for anyone interested in boating to see the latest trends in the industry, as well as to celebrate the success of MGM Boats and Lagoon Catamarans.

The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey range consists of 5 performance-orientated family cruisers ranging from 35 – 49ft. All models have a sleek, modern design and offer excellent performance without losing any of the comfort and usability we’ve come to expect from the brand.

MGM Boats are running a unique promotion this year, combining a ‘pre-season’ and ‘leap year’ discount on selected models. The Sun Odyssey 380 and Sun Odyssey 410 are the focus of the promotion, running from the 14th of February to the 17th of March 2024. Purchasing ‘pre-season’ offers sailors not only a significant cash discount but lots of additional benefits, which MGM Boats would like to highlight.

In the first place purchasing early allows a new owner plenty of time to organise the logistics of ownership – something MGM are happy to help with. This could be anything from insurance or berthage to sailing courses or VHF Radio Licences.

Getting on the water in early Spring gives sailors the opportunity to learn their boat and get comfortable with it before the true boating season begins, leaving the full summer free for cruising, racing, and just enjoying time on the water with family and friends.

An early start will also enable new owners to get some tuition on their boat (available through MGM) so they can be confident and ready for warmer weather.

The March – April period is a perfect opportunity for new owners to make their boats their own should they want to, with customisations and additions. This could be as simple as adding personal cushions and linen or as technical as installing TVs or cockpit enclosures. Existing owners will attest that trying to get work done on a boat mid-season is not easy. Having the time for pre-season makes things more feasible.

The Sun Odyssey 380 and the Sun Odyssey 410 are on display now at MGM’s base in Dun Laoghaire. The boats are water-ready; they are just waiting for an owner. There are trade-in and finance options available, and the pre-season deal is a genuinely significant cash discount taken off the retail price of the boat. Sailors will be familiar with the Sun Odyssey range from Jeanneau. For over 30 years, these boats have populated marinas and have been widely enjoyed by families and club racers alike. What started with the Sun Odyssey 36 back in 1989 is now a range of 5 modern and sleek cruisers, the newest of which is launching this January at the Dusseldorf Boat Show.

The new Sun Odyssey 350, designed by Marc Lombard, will take over from the hugely successful SO349, the best-selling monohull in Ireland and the best-selling boat in its class worldwide. Also in the range is the flagship SO490, the 440, the 410 and the 380, the latter pair being on display now at MGM Boats in Dun Laoghaire.

Sun Odysseys are a staple of MGM Boats, with over 600 units sold since 2000. Whether in Malahide or Dun Laoghaire, Crosshaven or Carrickfergus, you will see various models bearing the MGM Boats sticker in marinas nationwide.

The 410, in particular, has received rave reviews since its launch in 2019 and has proven to be a well-suited package for the Irish market.

Designed from the ground up to be a performance-oriented family cruiser, the 410 is available with multiple layouts, rigging, keel, and sail plans. There is a specification to suit everyone. In terms of design, Marc Lombard has excelled in bringing the latest innovative solutions to the boat, maximising performance and usability.

On the exterior, you will notice the subtly raked reverse bow, which adds crucial length to the waterline and allows for a sharp wave-piercing prow, increasing both efficiency and sea-keeping. Furthermore, the sharp running chine along the entire length of the hull provides stability when stationary and hugely increases performance when heeled over. At a roll angle of around 12 degrees, the running chine increases the waterline to that of a 46ft boat and she really takes off.

The innovations continue on deck. The 410 incorporates the revolutionary ‘walk-around’ cockpit, meaning there is no coaming or furniture to step over when moving around the boat. This also enables the helmsman to steer from the extremity of the beam, port and starboard. The fold-down swim platform, hydraulic on MGM’s demo boat, opens the cockpit to the sea and totally changes the comfort and space levels when at anchor or in light conditions. The cockpit table, with its folding leaves, is slightly offset, further aiding movement through the boat.

Inside you have 3 well-appointed cabins, a large galley and a vast saloon dining area. The central chaise-longe is an excellent spot to relax and offers wine storage underneath. The galley is among the largest in its class, yet it does not subtract from the rest of the cabin. It’s great to see a full-size chart table on a modern boat, and the master cabin forward will leave even the most committed land-lobbers with little to complain about. It features an island bed with a proper innerspring mattress, ample wardrobe space and a discreet combined vanity sink/dresser. These features are made possible by Lombard’s exceptional hull design with its near-vertical hull sides, giving more volume inside.

The 410 and the complete Jeanneau lineup will be on display in Hall 16 at the Dusseldorf Boat Show from 20th – 28th January and there will be excellent deals available.

January 2024 will mark 15 years since MGM Boats’ first appearance at boot Düsseldorf, the world’s largest boat and water sports fair.

That’s 15 years of developing contacts, clients, and a glowing reputation — with Germany and Northern Europe now being one of the Dun Laoghaire-based brokers' strongest export markets for new and used boats.

“We get the best results for clients who are seriously selling their boats, as buyers trust us due to our reputation in Europe,” says sales director Ross O’Leary.

The end of the 2000s, when MGM first set up a stand at boot Düsseldorf, was an inauspicious time for the boat trade in Ireland and the UK. Repossessions were common in the post-crash malaise and the London Boat Show — formerly a fruitful engagement for MGM sales each New Year — was on the wane before its eventual demise in 2018.

Noting that decline and sensing an opportunity to broaden its base beyond its stalwart Irish clients, MGM Boats invested in its first stand at boot Düsseldorf in 2009, and the move has more than paid off.

The broker is now an annual fixture at what’s become the only January show for planning your summer sailing and boating season.

Indeed, “Hall 5 at 5” has become something of a buzzword as the MGM stand — in the corner of Hall 5 in Messe Düsseldorf — offers refreshments every evening at 5 pm as a unique meeting point for all Irish visitors and clients at the show.

But the boats are still the main attraction, of course, and MGM Boats promises something for everyone — starting with the latest from Jeanneau Yachts.

MGM Boats is also the exclusive Irish agent for Jeanneau, whose new Sun Odyssey 350 — the successor to the Sun Odyssey 349, currently the best-selling monohull in the Irish market — will have its world premiere at Messe Düsseldorf this January.
