Rowan Fourth in Repechage at World Under-23 Championships

#Rowing: Erik Rowan finished fourth in his single sculls repechage at the World Under-23 Championships this morning in Plovdiv in Bulgaria. Romania and Hungary shot into the two qualification places in the first half of the race, and the Skibbereen oarsman stayed in touch until the final quarter. As the top two locked in their places in the A/B semi-finals, Rowan slipped back to fourth and will compete in the C/D semi-finals.

Sam McKeown and Andrew Griffin finished fifth in their repechage of the double sculls and will compete in the C Final. Norway and Lithuania took the first two qualification places; Ireland were in contention for the crucial third spot, but Estonia took it, with the Czech Republic fourth.

Men

Double Sculls – Repechage Two (First Threee to A/B Semi-Finals; rest to C Final): 1 Norway 6:23.47, 2 Lithuania 6:25.60, 3 Estonia 6:35.01; 5 Ireland (S McKeown, A Griffiin) 6:40.40

Single Sculls – Repechage Two (First Two to A/B Semi-Finals; rest to B/C Semi-Finals): 1 Romania 7:06.12, 2 Hungary 7:08.43; 4 Ireland (E Rowan) 7:17.35.
