Golden Run Honoured With Afloat Rower of Month Award

12th July 2017

#Rowing: Mark O’Donovan and Shane O’Driscoll are the Afloat Rowers of the Month for June. The Ireland lightweight pair won gold at the World Cup regatta in Poznan, their third win of the season, as in May they had also won at the first World Cup in Belgrade and at the European Championships. They would go on to win at the third World Cup in Lucerne in July, a remarkable run of wins.

Next up for them on the international calendar is the World Championship regatta in the United States in September – and the chance of continuing their golden run.

Rower of the Month awards: The judging panel is made up of Liam Gorman, rowing correspondent of The Irish Times, and David O'Brien, editor of Afloat magazine. Monthly awards for achievements during the year will appear on afloat.ie. Keep a monthly eye on progress and watch our 2017 champions list grow.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
