Speed sailor signs kit deal

13th May 2008

Ireland's fastest sailor bar none has signed a new deal with sponsor Wind and Wave of Monkstown, Co Dublin.

WIndsurfer John Kenny holds the Irish speed record, hitting 40.44 knots along a thin strip of water on January 31 of this year.

The record has been ratified by the World Speed Sailing Records Council, confirming his status as Ireland's fastest ever man on the water.

Kenny, along with all the world's top windsurfers, now has his eyes on the major goal - breaking the 50-knot barrier on a windsurfer.

The current record stands at 49.09 knots, held by Frenchman Antoine ALBEAU, with the world kitesurfing speed record just a shade under that at 47.92 (held by Alexandre Caizergues).

Kenny acknowledged the importance of help received from sponsors in what is a demanding and expensive sport. He's pictured below, proudly holding up a Starboard Speed Special 50 from Wind and Wave, and below that, hitting high speeds on the high seas.
