O'Rourke charters to Delta Lloyd

15th April 2009

After expensive damage in the south China Sea and resultant extensive repairs Ger O'Rourke has update his position in relation to arrangements with his boat for the rest of the Volvo Ocean Race. He has decided to charter the boat to Delta Lloyd for the balance of the race. O'Rourke will not be sailing but is still involved as owner and of course Chieftain Group and Village Banking as two co-sponsors along with Delta Lloyd.

Given the above and the current economic position Chieftain will not be holding a party in Galway. Kilrush sailor Ed O Connor is still shore support and was crew for inshore Rio. The boat has a new mast, new rewired electronics, new running back stay system, new main sail, A2, J2, R2, new hydraulic pump for keel ram system and all systems reconditioned O Rourke is confdent the former 'black betty' is pretty sharp.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
