Whilst the UK enjoyed plenty of sunshine and relatively light airs throughout the Easter weekend, competitors at the Spi Ouest Regatta in North West Brittany had far more varied conditions for their racing, with everything from zero to twenty knots throughout the course of the regatta.
Spi Ouest is one of the first major regattas of the European season and it is traditionally used as a platform for yacht manufacturers to show off their product, especially when there are new models hot out of the moulds. The event draws a host of ‘works’ and professional teams, competing to show off their product on race-track and to attract potential buyers.
This victory for Monsieurs Nicoleau and Loday is therefore all the more poignant, winning as they did over works teams on board out-and-out race boats like the Synergia 40, the A40, the new Beneteau and the Kerr 39. The GS43 OT is of course fully fitted for cruising comfort below decks, precisely as you would expect with a yacht by Grand Soleil, and so one can presume that Monsieurs Nicoleau and Loday won their regatta in comfort and in style.
