New Coach appointed at National YC

5th June 2009

High speed dinghy sailor Russell Mc Govern has been appointed Club Sailing Coach at Dun Laoghiare's National Yacht Club. McGovern shall be primarily involved in the coaching of our Junior and Youth members and potential Olympians, but will also be available to coach members in the various classes and types of boats they sail from the Club. His appointment says Commorodre Peter Ryan ensures that the members of the NYC have easy access to top class coaching and help maintain and enhance the National Yacht Club's position as a leading sailing club.

McGovern campaigned in the Olympic 49er class on a full time basis, achieving a top twenty world ranking. He was Ireland's top ranked Laser sailor prior to his 49er sailing and has extensive experience in racing and coaching many different classes up to Volvo 60's. Russell is a fully RYA qualified international racing and powerboat coach, a member of Ballyholme Yacht Club in Bangor, Co. Down and is 27 years of age.

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
