#RNLI - Following Thursday's callout to a yacht with engine trouble off Greystones, Wicklow RNLI's all-weather lifeboat launched at 3.45pm yesterday afternoon (Friday 24 July) to a Swedish registered yacht with a rope-fouled propeller, 10 miles north-east of Wicklow Harbour.
The lifeboat crew, under the command of coxswain Nick Keogh, were alongside the casualty 35 minutes after launching to the callout via a marine VHF call for assistance to the Irish Coast Guard.
Two volunteers were transferred onto the yacht, they were able to cut the vessel free from the rope obstruction.
Weather conditions in the area were good with a north-east Force 4 wind, slight sea state was slight and good visibility. A towline was quickly established and the 42ft ketch was taken in tow, as some rope remained entangled around the propeller. The coxswain decided to bring the vessel into Greystones, as it was the nearest port and the tide was running north.
The lifeboat brought the yacht and three occupants alongside the marina at Greystones Harbour at 5.25pm. The lifeboat then returned to station at Wicklow.
Crew on the callout were Keogh, mechanic Brendan Copeland, Brian Sinnott, Connie O'Gara, Dean Mulvihill and John Vize.
