Casey's Third Place Not Enough
Sean Casey finished third in his repechage of the men’s single scull at the World Championships in Poland, missing out on a chance to compete in A or B finals. Ondrej Synek of the Czech Republic, the silver medallist from the Beijing Olympics, won the race and Ariel Suarez of Argentina took the second qualification place for the A/B semi-finals. Casey was a clear third, well ahead of lengendary oarsman Jueri Jaanson of Estonia.

Day Three (Irish interest) Single Scull – Repechage Three (First Two to A/B Semi-Finals; rest to C/D Semi-Finals): 1 Czech Republic (O Synek) 7:28.05, 2 Argentina (A Suarez) 7:32.27; 3 Ireland (S Casey) 7:38.98, 4 Estonia (J Jaanson) 7:44.89.
