Lambe and Jennings are Afloat Rowers of the Month for July

#Rowing: The Ireland lightweight double of Sinéad Jennings and Claire Lambe are the Afloat Rowers of the Month for July. The crew won the B Final at the World Cup regatta in Lucerne, placing seventh and putting themselves firmly in the picture to secure qualification for the boat for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. This will be secured if they place in the top 11 at the World Championships. Their achievement was particularly admirable as Jennings had suffered an injury early this year and the crew was formed very late in the season.

Rower of the Month awards: The judging panel is made up of Liam Gorman, rowing correspondent of The Irish Times and David O'Brien, Editor of Afloat magazine. Monthly awards for achievements during the year will appear on afloat.ie and the overall national award will be presented to the person or crew who, in the judges' opinion, achieved the most notable results in, or made the most significant contribution to rowing during 2015. Keep a monthly eye on progress and watch our 2015 champions list grow.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
