#topaz – Next month Foynes Yacht Club will host the 2015 Topper Topaz Uno National Championships which will take place at the club on Saturday, 5th Sept.
The club are delighted to have received very generous support from Topper International Ltd who have sponsored the overall prizes (1st Topaz Racing Sail, 2nd Topaz Jib, 3rd Carbon Tiller Extension). There are also prizes in a number of other age categories including u16, u14 and u12.
Five races are scheduled on the day with one discard applicable after four races. The event is open to Topaz Uno or Topaz Uno Plus so entrants can choose to sail alone or with a crew. Foynes Yacht Club have received the support of the Irish Sailing association and will have the eighteen ISA Topper Topaz Sailfleet for the event which are already booked out.
Twenty seven entries to date it is hoped to break the thirty boat mark. The aim is to have a fun and exciting event with competitors ranging from seasoned sailors to complete beginners at this level with a number of entrants taking the step from Optimist and Toppers to Topaz' for the first time.
The decision to hold the national championships over one day was made in consultation with the Topaz Class Association in an effort to keep the financial costs as low as possible for anyone wishing to take part. The selection of date also allows for a nomination to be made to the Irish Sailing Association for the All Ireland Junior Sailing Championships which will take place in Kinsale Yacht Club on the 26th & 27th September. The Irish Sailing Association makes the final decision on invitations to the All-Ireland Junior Sailing Championships which will be run using the ISA Topper Topaz Sailfleet so the Topper Topaz Nationals could provide an excellent opportunity for anyone nominated to get some practice in before the junior helmsperson competition in Kinsale.
