'Elmo' Trophy Commemorates Founder of the Irish Team Racing Association

#teamracing – There's just a few days remain until the brand new Elmo Trophy – a team racing event aimed at Junior sailors to be held in the Royal Saint George YC this weekend (September 5th and 6th).

This is the inaugural event and will see teams from around Ireland and the UK competing. Schull Community College and West Kirby Sailing club will be fielding strong teams who will no doubt face competition from the host club as well as teams from the National Yacht Club, Sutton Dinghy Club and Bray Sailing Club amongst others.

Teams consisting of six under 18 sailors will be using the RSGYC's flight of Fireflies to compete for the perpetual trophy pictured below.

The trophy kindly donated by Sage Pay is named after the late Graham Elmes, the founder of the Irish Team Racing Association.

There are still a few entries available – there is no entry fee for the event, interested clubs or associations should contact Daniela Bindl, Secretary of the host club.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
