Financially Flush Fireballs?

31st August 2015

#fireball – Afloat.ie has had an email from "a concerned reader" who fears that the supposedly very-economically-minded International Fireball Class have lost the run of themselves entirely this past week at their Worlds across in Abersoch. Our anonymous viewer was astonished to see the Fireballers kitted out in the full fig for a black-tie end-of-championship dinner in the South Caernarvon YC on Friday night, as dutifully reported on Afloat.ie at 0740 Saturday morning, complete with incriminating photo. Then on opening Saturday's Daily Telegraph, our viewer was even further concerned by this item in the letters page. We publish it in sorrow, but in the hope that a spokesman for the International Fireball Class can put this all in perspective, for it's far from black-tie dinners and emptied ATMs the Fireball Class was reared.......

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven't put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full-time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
