IMDO Review: Dublin Up 5%, Shipping Sentiment Dips, Greeks Top Scrapping & More

#Ports&Shipping – The latest Irish Maritime Development Office (IMDO) Weekly Market Review includes the following stories outlined below.

Irish Maritime News: Dublin Cargo Volumes Grows by 5% with Aims to Break Passenger Records by the End of This Year. The company behind Dublin Port said it expects to see a record two million visitors pass through the port this year. This is mainly on the back of strong growth in passenger numbers from ferry and cruise ships.

2015 is set to be a record year for the port's cruise business with some 42 cruise ships having already dropped anchor in Dublin Port during the first six months of the year, up 35.5% on the same period last year, bringing over 56,000 visitors to the capital.

Transport Survey Shows Sentiment in Shipping is deteriorating - According to a transport survey from global legal practice Norton Rose Fulbright, confidence among respondents from the shipping industry has deteriorated sharply over the past year. Just one third of shipping respondents believe current market conditions are positive for their industry, down from 69% in 2014.

Bulk Market: Greek Owners Top Dry Bulk Carrier Scrappage -According to a report commissioned by VesselValue.com, Greek Owners topped the list in terms of dry bulk tonnage scrappage. Greek owners scrapped 54 dry bulk vessels up till 6th July this year totalling 4.98 million DWT. Some 20 capesizes accounted for 3.23 million DWT of the total dry bulk tonnage scrapped by Greek owners.
