A new service has been launched in Warrenpoint Port to support large fishing vessels in managing the inspection and repair of their nets.
Due to the expanse of the quayside at Warrenpoint Port, pelagic fishing vessels (pelagic fish are species which live and feed away from the bottom of the sea) can, by arrangement, berth at the Co. Down port to roll out their nets for inspection or repair.
David Holmes, CEO Warrenpoint Port said, “We are delighted to offer this service to the many vessels which fish in and around the eastern seaboard. We have up to 100m of quayside space available at Warrenpoint Port. This provides ample space for most vessels to carry out inspections, repairs, and maintenance on their nets.
“Fishermen who currently work with Warrenpoint Port have been telling us that very few fishing ports have the capacity to offer this service, so this should be a useful addition for the industry.”
