At the request of Valentia Coast Guard, 12.02am (Sunday 19 July), the volunteer crew of Kilrush Lifeboat launched to assist a 36ft yacht that had run aground on a dropping tide.
Kilrush Lifeboat reached the scene within minutes and it was established that no injuries had been sustained by the two persons aboard, nor had the vessel been damaged by the grounding.
The crew of the yacht had dropped anchor and the both crew were brought aboard Kilrush Lifeboat. Kilrush Lifeboat returned to station at 12.45am.
Kilrush Lifeboat crew reassembled and launched at 4.00am to recover the vessel due to favourable tides. The incoming tide had re-floated the vessel and Kilrush Lifeboat assisted the two crew back on board while setting up a tow to aid the vessel into the main navigation channel. The 36ft yacht made its way safely to Kilrush Marina.
Kilrush Lifeboat returned to station at 4.50am.
Commenting on the call out, Charlie Glynn, Kilrush RNLI Lifeboat Press Officer said: 'Thankfully the casualty vessel and crew returned safely to Kilrush Marina. As a matter of safety, I would urge boat owners while navigating in darkness to have the appropriate navigation aids to allow safe travel from port to port.'
