A large trailing suction hopper dredger has berthed at Dun Laoghaire’s Carlisle Pier this week.
The vessel, Freeway, is understood to be alongside for a short lay-up rather than operational work in the harbour.
Harbour sources indicated the ship will remain for around two weeks to complete engine repairs.
Following this, the dredger is expected to move to Dublin Port for scheduled works.
The arrival of the vessel comes amid ongoing discussion around future maintenance dredging in Dun Laoghaire Harbour.
Planning and permitting processes for any such campaign are at an early stage, with timelines likely to extend over several years.
As Afloat reported previously, dredging programmes typically require multiple regulatory approvals before work can commence.
