Announcing the appointments, Dooley said their experience would be a “valuable asset” as the Marine Institute addresses opportunities and challenges facing Ireland’s marine sector. “The Marine Institute plays a critical role in providing the scientific knowledge and evidence that underpin sustainable ocean management, climate action and the development of our blue economy,” he said.
Marine Institute chair Martin Sisk also welcomed the appointments, highlighting Gleeson’s maritime and strategic leadership background and Tierney’s experience in finance, governance, audit and risk. “Their complementary skills and perspectives will further strengthen the Board as we work with the Executive to advance the Marine Institute’s mission of delivering world-class marine research, innovation and scientific services for the benefit of Ireland’s society, economy and environment,” Sisk said.
