Cinzano Blasts Away From Fastnet Rock

11th June 2010
Cinzano Blasts Away From Fastnet Rock

Cinzano leads the Around Ireland Powerboat Race again, blasting away in a northwesterly direction from the Fastnet Rock at close to 55 knots.

Close on her heels was the Newstalk/Galway Girl boat, navigated by event organiser Enda O'Coineen, but in the space of beginning and ending this post, she has altered course and pulled into Baltimore, meaning the Newstalk-sponsored boat will have made a stop on every leg of the race so far.

The boats are heading for Fenit in Tralee Bay to enjoy the festivities of the Seabreeze festival before the final leg to Galway tomorrow for the finish.

Conditions up along the west coast are a westerly swell that will make for uncomfortable motoring, with a headwind of close to 20 knots from 350 degrees at the south-west corner of the country at present.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
