Nigel Biggs, a member of both Howth Yacht Club and the Royal Irish Yacht Club, has recently been appointed as an International Race Officer. This recognition reflects not only his decades of sailing success but also his commitment to giving back to the sport. With over 40 years of competitive racing experience—from dinghies to superyachts—Nigel has competed at the highest international levels.

In recent months, Nigel has been involved in managing the racing at a variety of events, from Optimists at the Orange Bowl Youth Regatta in Miami to the Finn Europeans in Naples, as well as the inaugural North Sound Maxi Regatta in the BVI.

The remainder of 2025 will be equally busy for Nigel as he travels to Greece for the 49er Europeans, Cascais for the TP52 World Championships, and Cowes for the Admiral’s Cup, while also fitting in a visit to Lough Ree for the Optimist Nationals.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven't put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full-time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
